Cleaning Tips for the Fall Season

Cleaning Tips for the Fall Season

Oct 17th 2019

Now's the time of year when it's time to start preparing your home for visitors. The Fall Season brings great things cold weather, holidays, good food, and friends and family that may need a place to stay. Here are some cleaning tips to get your Fall Cleaning List started.

  1. Refresh Run Down Carpet

Can you spot dull matted trails on the carpet? Hit those spots with a powdered or foam carpet cleaner. Apply it according to the package directions, then vacuum it up.

  2. De-grit Doormats

Interior doormats keep dirt from being brought inside the house……only if they're clean. The more you use doormats, the more dirt gets on them, effectively canceling out their use over time. Some doormats can be thrown in the washer and dryer, check the tags for instructions. If not, then it's best if you use a vacuum for the front and the back of the mat.
  3. Get your Carpet Professionally Cleaned

BUT VACUUM FIRST. It's easy to set up a carpet cleaning to get a head start on the holiday season, and it's also easy to forget you need to vacuum first. Vacuum up the carpet before letting the professionals handle the deep cleaning.
  4. Vacuum your Home's Couches and Chairs

Make sure you vacuum your couches and chairs, they've accumulated a lot of dust and crumbs throughout the year. Spots you want to clean are both sides of the cushions, the back, sides, arms, and underneath the cushions.
  5. Vacuum Dusty Blinds

While using the low setting on your vacuum and a brush attachment vacuum your blinds. Vinyl shades can be wiped down with a dampened microfiber cloth if needed.
  6. Moderately Dirty Windows Need a Little Extra

Start with dusting or vacuuming the curtains then use the brush attachment to vacuum the blinds. You can also submerge blinds or shades in a few inches of cool water and two teaspoons of dishwashing liquid (check labels first to make sure this is safe). Take out the metal weights first; they can rust.
  7. Sweep the chimneys

Have your wood-burning fireplaces and chimneys professionally inspected and swept.
